The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is set to discontinue cash payments at toll plazas on national highways from April 1. Vehicle owners will be required to pay toll charges strictly through digital modes such as FASTag or UPI. The move aims to reduce long queues at toll plazas and ensure smoother and faster travel for commuters.
As part of the ‘No Cash, No Stop’ initiative, the government has already implemented the system on a pilot basis at 25 toll plazas across the country. While the initiative has shown encouraging results, an official notification regarding nationwide implementation is yet to be issued. Authorities are expected to provide further clarity in the coming days.
