The tennis world is in mourning following the passing of Italian legend Nicola Pietrangeli at the age of 92 on Monday. The two-time French Open champion (1959 & 1960) and the only Italian inductee into the International Tennis Hall of Fame died after a brief illness, the Italian Tennis Federation confirmed.
Born in 1933 in Tunisia to an Italian father and Russian mother, Pietrangeli won 44 single titles during his illustrious career and remains one of the most celebrated figures in Italian sporting history.
Tributes have poured in from the President and Prime Minister of Italy, fellow tennis greats, and celebrities across cinema and politics, with many taking to social media to honour the life and legacy of a true icon of the sport.
