Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sajjanar has warned the public about a new WhatsApp scam called “Ghost Pairing” He advised users not to click on suspicious links that say, “Hey… have you seen your photo?” or "Hey, I just found your photo!"
If users click on such links, their WhatsApp account gets connected to a hacker’s device. Once this happens, hackers can access personal information and send messages to others using the victim’s name, leading to fraud.
To stay safe, Sajjanar advised people to regularly check the ‘Linked Devices’ option in WhatsApp settings. If any unknown or suspicious devices are found, they should be removed immediately. He shared this warning through a tweet to create public awareness.
Key advisories by Sajjanar:
Never click on unknown or suspicious links.
Even if a link or message comes from someone you know, always call and verify before acting on it.
If you sense anything suspicious, immediately report it to the Cyber Crime authorities.
With the rapid increase in smartphone usage, such frauds are becoming more clever and frequent, the CP warned, urging people to stay alert.
Digital safety is now as important as personal safety. Sajjanar’s warning highlights that even a small lapse can lead to major losses.
