MP Passes Away While Playing Football..

A tragic incident has shaken Meghalaya politics. Shillong Lok Sabha MP and key Voice of the People Party (VPP) leader Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon passed away. On Thursday evening, he suddenly collapsed while playing football with friends at a ground in Mawlai Mawiong.

His friends quickly rushed him to the Mawiong Community Health Centre. He was later shifted for advanced treatment to Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, where he died during treatment.

Syngkon held a PhD in Economics and had worked as a teacher at North Eastern Hill University in Shillong before contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Known as a strong voice in the opposition, his death has drawn condolences from Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and several political leaders.
