Miscreants Destroy Check Dam to Facilitate Illegal Sand Transport

In Peddapalli district’s Odela mandal, miscreants vandalized the check dam built across the Maneru stream near Gumpula village. The structure was partially demolished late Friday night, causing the stored water to flow downstream uncontrollably.  Irrigation officials inspected the site after receiving information about the incident. They suspect that the culprits destroyed the check dam to enable illegal sand transportation from the stream.
Officials confirmed that three panels of the check dam were heavily damaged in the act. The structure had recently been built at a cost exceeding Rs. 23 crore, making the incident particularly concerning for local residents.
