In a major development in the child trafficking case, Priyanka, a key mastermind of a Delhi-based racket who had been absconding, is likely to surrender before the Vijayawada police soon. A special police team from Vijayawada had earlier travelled to Delhi and later to Meerut to arrest her, but she managed to flee to Uttarakhand before their arrival. With all escape routes reportedly closed, Priyanka is said to have decided to surrender. Police have issued notices to her in-laws in Meerut, following which she discussed the matter with her family and chose to present herself before the authorities. She is expected to arrive in Vijayawada shortly along with her legal counsel.
Investigations revealed that Priyanka earned huge sums through the illegal sale of infants. Police have intensified scrutiny of her financial transactions and sought details from concerned banks. Once the account statements are received, transactions will be examined and accounts are likely to be frozen to prevent further activity. Officials believe that analysis of these records may expose links to more individuals involved in the racket.
