In Kerala, where assembly elections are due soon, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a series of populist promises and has strongly criticised his political rivals. If the Congress party comes to power in the state, he has promised free travel on RTC buses for women, financial assistance of ₹1,000 per month for girls going to colleges, an increase in old age pension to ₹3,000, insurance of ₹25 lakh per family, and interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh for those who want to start a business. Speaking at a meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused him of working under the control of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also questioned why the CBI and ED have not taken action against him.
Rahul Gandhi also criticised the trade deal signed with the US. He said that India's valuable data resources were handed over to the US, which is Modi's betrayal of the country's farmers. Speaking at a meeting with IT employees at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, he said that Indian data is the most valuable in the world. He also said that if he had not entered politics, he would have been an entrepreneur in the aviation sector. He said that he is also interested in that sector as both his father and younger brother are pilots.
