Recent remarks by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari have once again drawn attention to the evolving dynamics of India–Pakistan relations. Referring to “Operation Sindoor,” he stated that during India’s strikes he was advised to take shelter in a bunker, but he chose not to do so.
Amid rising tensions in West Asia, Zardari alleged that India appears to be preparing for another conflict. Addressing a joint session of the Pakistan Parliament, he criticized India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, describing it as an act of “hydro terrorism.” He remarked that using water as a political weapon is not justified.
At the same time, he emphasized that Pakistan seeks to resolve issues through peace and dialogue and remains open to talks with India to ease tensions. In recent months, the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, escalating tensions along border areas, and mutual allegations have further complicated bilateral relations between the two nations. Whether both sides will move toward de-escalation and dialogue or allow tensions to intensify further remains to be seen.
