The Telangana government has implemented an EV policy to reduce environmental pollution, said Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. He stated that under this policy, a 100% exemption on road tax and registration tax has been provided. Since the launch of the policy, the government has incurred a revenue loss of ₹925.94 crore for 1,15,551 electric vehicles, while continuing to actively promote the adoption of electric mobility.
The Minister held a press conference at the Secretariat along with Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Shivadhar Reddy and leaders of employees’ associations. He informed that several companies, including Mahindra Electric, Ather Energy, Graviton Motors and Ola, have come forward to offer discounts ranging from 10% to 20% for government employees. He also said that EVs were inspected at the Secretariat along with senior officials and their details were reviewed. A discount initiative to encourage government employees to adopt EVs has also been launched.
The Minister further noted that after the implementation of the EV policy, the usage of electric vehicles in the state has increased from 0.60% to 1.50%. He said the government is making extensive efforts to promote sustainable transportation and reduce dependence on conventional fuels. He added that the Chief Minister has directed that all government-purchased vehicles should be electric. Necessary steps are being taken to adopt EVs through hiring models or departmental procurement, he said.
