From October 6, commuters in Hyderabad will once again face higher bus fares as the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has revised its ticket prices. The new fare structure impacts ordinary, metro ordinary, metro express, and metro deluxe services.
Under the latest revision:
Fares for the first three stages will increase by ₹5.
From the fourth stage onward, passengers will have to pay ₹10 more.
In metro deluxe buses, the hike is ₹5 for the first stage and ₹10 for each stage after that.
TSRTC officials explained that the revision was unavoidable due to rising expenses in fuel, maintenance, and operations. Additionally, the government is planning to introduce 2,800 new e-buses as part of a gradual shift toward a full electric bus network, which requires significant funding. However, the decision has sparked public criticism. Many passengers believe the fare hike is linked to the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which offers free travel for women, rather than operational costs. They argue that the move aims to recover the financial losses incurred from the scheme. This is the third fare hike in two years, and even bus passes have seen increased rates. The opposition has also condemned the move, questioning the logic behind raising fares despite TSRTC reportedly earning ₹110 crore profit during the recent Dasara holidays.
For daily commuters, students, and workers, the new fares will likely add to their financial burden.
