More than 20 engineering students were injured after a goods train collided with a college bus near Karur in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, according to police officials. The bus, which belonged to a private engineering college, was carrying several students to campus when it attempted to cross a railway track. At that moment, an approaching goods train struck the vehicle, triggering panic among the passengers and leaving many students injured.
Local residents and railway staff rushed to the scene immediately after the collision and helped rescue the students from the damaged bus. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, and police stated that most students sustained minor injuries while a few were reported to be in moderate condition. Officials from the railway department and police have launched an investigation to determine whether the accident was caused by negligence at the railway crossing or a misjudgment by the bus driver. Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted but was later restored after rescue operations were completed.
