Former Team India cricketer and Rajya Sabha member Harbhajan Singh has approached the High Court, challenging a decision made by the Punjab government. He filed a petition opposing the abrupt withdrawal of the police security previously provided to him. In his petition, he highlighted ongoing protests outside his residence and expressed concerns regarding the safety of his family.
Responding to this petition, the Punjab High Court issued notices to the state government, seeking an explanation regarding the withdrawal of security cover. The next hearing in this case is scheduled for May 12. The government had recently withdrawn the security detail—comprising nine police personnel—that had been assigned to Harbhajan.
Political circles are abuzz with speculation that this decision was taken in the wake of his recent switch of political parties, along with several other MPs. Opposition leaders have expressed strong objections to this move, alleging that it is a vindictive decision.
