Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who ruled Bihar for the longest time, has decided to leave the post of CM and go to Rajya Sabha. He filed his nomination in the backdrop of elections to 37 Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant in ten states on the 16th of this month. On the last day of nominations, along with Nitish Kumar, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, senior leader Upendra Kushwaha and Union Minister Ramnath Thakur also filed their nominations in Patna. Since the NDA has a clear majority in the Legislative Assembly, the election of these candidates in Bihar is expected to be a formality.
Nitish Kumar said that his ties with the state of Bihar will continue even if he goes to Rajya Sabha. He said that he will provide full support to the newly formed government. However, JDU workers protested in Patna against his leaving the post of CM and going to Rajya Sabha. On the other hand, political analysts believe that with Nitish's resignation, the BJP may get the CM post for the first time in Bihar. There is a rumor that Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary is likely to become the CM.
