Food delivery platforms are once again drawing criticism after increasing platform fees, leaving customers surprised. Following Zomato, Swiggy has also raised its platform fee from ₹14.99 to ₹17.58 (including GST). This means users will now pay an additional ₹2.59 per order, adding to the overall cost of online food delivery.
The hike is reportedly driven by rising operational costs amid increasing crude oil prices and fuel-related challenges due to global tensions. Swiggy introduced the platform fee in April 2023, starting at just ₹2, and has gradually increased it over time. While the additional charge may seem small for individual users, it is expected to generate significant revenue for the company given the high volume of daily orders. However, netizens have expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the era of discounts and subsidies is fading, giving way to a profit-driven phase.
