Authorities have issued a flash flood warning for several districts in Andhra Pradesh as Cyclone Ditva continues to intensify. After causing severe destruction in Sri Lanka and impacting major regions of Tamil Nadu, the system is now expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days across South Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Disaster Management Authority MD Prakhar Jain urged residents in low-lying areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Heavy rainfall is likely in Prakasam, Nellore, Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, and Sri Sathya Sai districts. Light to moderate rains may occur in Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East & West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna and NTR districts. To handle emergencies, 2 NDRF teams in Kadapa and 3 SDRF teams in Venkatagiri have been deployed.
The State Emergency Operations Center is continuously monitoring the cyclone’s movement and alerting district authorities. Control rooms have been set up at state, district and mandal levels. Fishermen have been instructed to return from the sea immediately, while farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions to safeguard crops. With a high possibility of flash floods, the government machinery is now on full alert across vulnerable regions.
