A major train accident was narrowly avoided in Andhra Pradesh after wagons of a goods train got detached near Rayadurgam in Anantapur district. The train was carrying a load of iron ore and was heading towards Mangaluru in Karnataka.
The goods train consisted of 60 wagons, and the coupling reportedly broke near the sixth wagon. As a result, the engine section moved nearly two kilometers ahead. Railway staff quickly noticed the separation and immediately halted the train.
Since no other train was present on the same track at the time, a serious mishap was avoided. Railway officials rushed to the spot and restored normalcy. An inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the incident.
