In the Bijapur-Dantewada border area of western Bastar region in Chhattisgarh, security forces clashed with Maoists in a gunfight on December 3, 2025. The encounter, which began at around 9 AM, involved a joint team comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Cobra commandos, who launched an operation against Maoist activities. In this incident, seven Maoists were killed, while two DRG personnel were martyred. They were identified as Head Constable Monu Vaddi and Constable Dukaru Gonde. Another jawan, Somdev Yadav, sustained serious injuries but was reported out of danger by doctors after receiving primary treatment. This event is part of the intensified anti-Naxal operations aimed at reducing Maoist influence in the Bastar region.
Various weapons, including self-loading rifles (SLR), .303 rifles, and bullets, were recovered from the encounter site. The identities of the Maoists have yet to be established. Security forces have cordoned off the area, deployed additional troops, and are continuing combing operations. Significant gunfire exchanges occurred throughout the day, and the operation is still ongoing. This year, 270 Maoists have been killed in encounters across Chhattisgarh, with 241 of them eliminated in the Bastar division (including Bijapur and Dantewada). Officials stated that these operations have been strategically designed to weaken the Maoist organization.
