Zomato and Blinkit founder Deepinder Goyal has once again clarified the gig work model. Following recent discussions and protests regarding the wages and working conditions of gig workers, he posted a series of messages on social media. He explained that gig work is not an alternative to a full-time job, but a model that offers the freedom to work only when needed and for the desired number of hours.
He stated that a delivery partner working 10 hours a day for 26 days a month can earn approximately Rs. 26,500. Even after deducting petrol and maintenance costs, a net income of about Rs. 21,000 per month remains, he said, adding that tips are extra. He mentioned that in 2025, delivery partners worked an average of only 38 days a year, and that too for only 7 hours a day. He explained that only 2.3 percent of all partners worked for more than 250 days a year.
He also refuted allegations that 10-minute deliveries lead to accidents. He said that the average Blinkit delivery distance is only 2 kilometers, and deliveries are made at an average speed of approximately 16 kilometers per hour. He also stated that in 2025, they spent over Rs. 100 crore on insurance for delivery partners. He revealed that they are providing accident insurance of ₹10 lakh to each partner, paid leave for female delivery agents, tax filing assistance, and pension benefits. Despite all these facilities, expressing unnecessary concerns about the gig work model is not right, Deepinder Goyal commented.
