Heavy rains are occurring across the unified Nellore district, causing the Swarnamukhi River to flood. Particularly in the Gudur division, relentless heavy rains are being reported. A large volume of floodwater is reaching the Swarnamukhi River barrage in Vakadu mandal. As a result, irrigation authorities have lifted 13 gates, releasing 23,000 cusecs of water downstream.
In Vakadu and Kota mandals, sea waves are overflowing onto the shore. In the coastal areas of Vakadu mandal, between Duggaraaj Patnam Panchayat and Konduru Palem, floodwater is flowing over the road. The road has been cut off, halting vehicle movement. Konduru Palem, a fishermen’s village with about 300 families, is trapped in floodwaters. The Panchayat’s motor wires are submerged, stopping the drinking water supply. Locals claim that authorities are not taking sufficient action.
Similarly, at Tippagunta Palem in Chillakuru mandal, the situation is the same, with floodwaters from Cheptaa and Upputeru overflowing vigorously, leaving residents stranded. In Saidapuram mandal, the Kaivalya River is also flowing with great force, and floodwater is passing through Turimerla at Cheptaa. In Manubolu mandal, the Kandaleru stream is overflowing, and near Badvel Road, the Sangameswaralayam area has been submerged in water.
