Divya Reddy, a noted woman entrepreneur and granddaughter of a former DGP, has fallen victim to a cyber fraud. She currently serves as a director for 18 companies. In this incident, cybercriminals created a fake WhatsApp account using her name and photograph and targeted her accountant. On the 13th of this month, the accountant received a message from the fraudulent account stating that she was in a meeting and instructing him to transfer ₹1.20 crore to a specified bank account. Trusting the message, the accountant proceeded to transfer the amount.
On the 17th of the same month, another message was sent via WhatsApp requesting an additional transfer. This raised suspicion, prompting the accountant to seek direct approval from Divya Reddy. While discussing the transaction, he informed her about the earlier transfer of ₹1.20 crore. In response, Divya Reddy clarified that she had not instructed any such payment, revealing that a fraud had taken place. Following the discovery, the victims immediately lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
