The statue of renowned singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam (SP Balasubrahmanyam Statue) is scheduled to be inaugurated today (Monday) at Ravindra Bharathi. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will unveil the statue at 3:00 PM this afternoon. However, the installation of Balasubrahmanyam’s statue is being opposed by some Telangana activists, including Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha and activist Prithviraj.
In this backdrop, Telangana activists have prepared to stage protests against the statue’s installation. As a precautionary measure, police have placed several protestors under house arrest. Heavy police deployment has been made in and around Ravindra Bharathi. The protestors are demanding that statues of Telangana artists be installed at Ravindra Bharathi and insist that the statue of Balasubrahmanyam, who allegedly refused to sing the Telangana state anthem, should not be installed under any circumstances.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, a heated argument took place between actor Subhalekha Sudhakar and activist Prithviraj, along with others, over the issue of unveiling S. P. Balasubrahmanyam’s statue. Telangana activists had warned that the statue should not be inaugurated in Telangana. Police intervened and dispersed Prithviraj and other activists from the spot. With Chief Minister Revanth Reddy set to inaugurate the statue today, the issue has once again become a topic of intense discussion.
