The long-pending death case of Tollywood actress Pratyusha has once again come into focus. After nearly 24 years since the incident in 2002, the Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict today.
The accused, Siddharth Reddy, had challenged the jail sentence imposed by the High Court and filed an appeal seeking relief. Meanwhile, Pratyusha’s mother, Sarojini, also approached the Supreme Court, demanding enhancement of the punishment. She filed petitions in November last year seeking stricter action against the accused. After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court reserved its judgment.
With the verdict expected today, there is widespread interest in the outcome. Discussions are ongoing about whether the Court will uphold, reduce, or enhance the sentence.
Pratyusha passed away at a time when she was gaining momentum in the Telugu film industry. On February 23, 2002, she and her partner Siddharth Reddy consumed pesticide in an alleged suicide attempt. While Pratyusha died during treatment, Siddharth Reddy survived.
Following a complaint filed by her mother, a case was registered and legal proceedings continued. The High Court later pronounced a sentence, which is now under review by the Supreme Court.
