In the wake of Deepika Padukone’s recent comments on maintaining a strict eight-hour work schedule in the Indian film industry, the long-standing debate on work culture has gained fresh momentum. While several artists supported her stand for structured work hours and improved work-life balance, others expressed a different viewpoint. The discussion has now reached Tollywood, where some prominent Telugu film directors have shared their perspective on extended working hours during film productions.
Directors such as Chandoo Mondeti, Sailesh Kolanu and Anil Ravipudi believe that working beyond scheduled hours can offer certain advantages. Chandoo Mondeti stated that longer working hours benefit crew members who are paid on an hourly basis, allowing them to earn more. Anil Ravipudi explained that extended efforts from the cast and crew can help reduce production costs by completing shoots on time. Sailesh Kolanu added that continuing work during a creative flow can be beneficial for storytelling. These contrasting opinions clearly highlight the ongoing divide between actors and directors over work culture in the film industry.
