The teaser of actor Yash’s upcoming film Toxic, which was recently released on YouTube, has triggered a major controversy. Criticism has been pouring in over the allegedly obscene and objectionable scenes shown in the teaser. Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party have lodged a complaint with the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, following which the Commission wrote to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking appropriate action on the issue.
Responding to the matter, the CBFC clarified that content released on digital platforms such as YouTube does not require its certification. It stated that its approval is mandatory only for teasers and trailers intended for theatrical screening. Since the Toxic teaser was released directly on YouTube, it does not fall under the Board’s jurisdiction. CBFC officials also confirmed that no content related to the film has been submitted to them for certification.
In her complaint, Aam Aadmi Party state secretary Usha Mohan alleged that the teaser contains visuals that could negatively impact children’s mental health and demanded its removal. Acting on the complaint, the Women’s Commission approached the CBFC, which then issued its response. Directed by Geethu Mohan, Toxic is scheduled to be released in theatres on March 19.
