Bollywood’s renowned filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt have been taken into custody by the Rajasthan police. The couple is facing allegations of committing financial fraud amounting to over ₹30 crore. Dr. Ajay Murdia, a well-known businessman from Udaipur and the founder of Indira IVF, had entered into an agreement with Vikram Bhatt to make a big-budget biopic based on the life story of his late wife.
The film, titled “Viraat,” was said to have the potential to collect over ₹200 crore, and Bhatt allegedly promised a significant share of the profits. Based on this assurance, Dr. Murdia reportedly paid nearly ₹30 crore to the director. However, Vikram Bhatt’s side has a different version of the story.
He claims that Dr. Ajay Murdia himself halted the project midway, and that there are pending dues of over ₹250 crore owed by Murdia to technicians and the VFX teams. Bhatt alleges that the businessman filed a false case against him to escape those financial responsibilities. Currently, the couple is being taken from Mumbai to Udaipur on transit remand.
Speaking to the media, Vikram Bhatt said, “I will fully cooperate with the police. I will provide all original agreements and bank transaction records. The truth will come out soon.”
