The extradition process of fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi to India has reportedly reached its final stage. After the dismissal of his legal petitions in the UK courts and the European Court of Human Rights, the UK government has initiated the formal procedures required for his extradition. The development marks a significant step in India's efforts to bring him back to face trial.
Nirav Modi is wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the multi-crore Punjab National Bank loan fraud and money laundering cases. He has been lodged in a London prison since March 2019 while contesting extradition. With most of his legal remedies exhausted, the process of bringing him back to India is expected to move forward.
