Just days before its grand release on November 14, Dulquer Salmaan’s much-anticipated film Kaantha has been caught in a legal tussle. B. Thiagarajan, grandson of legendary Tamil actor and singer M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, filed a complaint in the Chennai Civil Court alleging that Kaantha was inspired by his grandfather’s life without the family’s consent. He also accused the film’s makers of depicting Bhagavathar in a negative manner, raising speculation that the film’s release might be delayed.
However, producer Rana Daggubati quickly dismissed these claims, calling them “baseless” and confirming that Kaantha will release as planned on November 14. During a Q&A session on X, Rana clarified that the movie has “no real reference at all” and is purely a fictional story. He further stated that both he and Dulquer have immense confidence that the allegations will be proven false. The film, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, also stars Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri Borse in pivotal roles.
