Devotional content has been receiving strong support from audiences in recent times. Telugu film Irumudi, which featured an Ayyappa Swamy-related theme, became a notable success for Ravi Teja. The film also made headlines when audiences reportedly protested after a theatre stopped its screening and demanded that the show be restored. A similar incident is now reportedly being discussed in connection with the Bollywood devotional film Hanuman Anshh.
Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Anshh has been gaining unexpected momentum despite starting with a relatively small release. According to reports, a theatre in Mumbai’s Bandra replaced a scheduled Hanuman Anshh show with Mirzapur, upsetting audiences. Viewers reportedly gathered outside the theatre and demanded that Hanuman Anshh be screened again, with the matter eventually reaching the police. The theatre management is said to have restored the film’s screening. The incident has once again highlighted the strong audience response that films with devotional themes can generate.
