Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has sparked a major discussion on social media after linking climate change to patriarchy. Speaking on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast, "All About Her," Dia participated in a conversation on ecofeminism alongside photographer Aarati Kumar Rao. She emphasized that the climate crisis is not merely an environmental issue but also a matter of social inequality.
Dia stated that patriarchal systems have historically prioritized exploitation over protection, treating nature and vulnerable communities as resources to be used rather than safeguarded. According to her, the same mindset that objectifies women has also led to the exploitation of forests, rivers, and natural ecosystems. She noted that women and children are often the first to suffer during floods, droughts, and other climate-related disasters, yet they remain underrepresented in decision-making processes. Dia stressed that compassion, equality, and inclusive leadership are essential for addressing environmental challenges effectively.
