Motion sickness refers to dizziness, nausea, and vomiting that occur during travel, especially on ghat roads and sharp turns. Doctors explain that this happens due to a lack of coordination between the eyes, inner ear balance system, and the brain. While traveling, the eyes may signal that the body is still, whereas the balance system in the ears tells the brain that the body is moving. These mixed signals confuse the brain, which interprets them as a sign of harmful substances in the body. As a natural defense mechanism, the body responds by inducing vomiting, according to doctors.
To reduce motion sickness, doctors advise looking far outside through a window during travel, as it helps the brain balance signals from the eyes and ears. Avoid traveling on an empty stomach or immediately after heavy meals, as both can worsen nausea. Sleeping during travel may also disturb body balance and increase vomiting. Medical experts note that motion sickness affects nearly one in three people and is more common in women than men, largely due to hormonal factors.
