Main Cause Revealed: Doctors Warn About Lung Cancer

Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology said 836 of the 13,576 new cancer cases diagnosed in 2025 were lung cancer cases, accounting for 6.1 percent of its total cancer burden. Across Karnataka, an estimated 5,503 new lung cancer cases and 2,048 related deaths are expected this year. Doctors said tobacco remains the leading preventable cause, while air pollution, asbestos, radon and occupational exposure also increase the risk.

Doctors noted that lung cancer is often diagnosed late because early symptoms are usually mild. Persistent cough, coughing up blood, chest pain, unexplained weight loss, breathing difficulty and repeated respiratory infections should never be ignored, especially by people with known risk factors. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can significantly improve outcomes.
