Recently, young people are dying suddenly at an early age. Initially, many believed these deaths were mainly due to COVID-19, but a study by AIIMS, Delhi revealed the real causes. Examining over 3,800 sudden deaths between 2018 and 2022, the study found that nearly half of those under 45 died due to heart-related issues. Heart diseases accounted for 42.6%, respiratory infections 21.5%, and other causes 35.9%. The report clarified that COVID-19 was not the primary reason for these deaths.
According to doctors, the rise in heart problems among youth is primarily due to lifestyle changes. Smoking, alcohol consumption, stress, lack of sleep, junk food, and inactivity are major risk factors. The AIIMS study also revealed that among the young who died between 2018 and 2022, 57% were smokers and 52% consumed alcohol. Experts advise not to ignore even minor symptoms, recommend cardiac screenings for everyone above 30, and to consult a doctor immediately if chest pain or breathing difficulties occur. Doctors emphasize that a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, proper diet, and stress management are essential to protect the heart.
