A unique initiative called ‘Feel the Jail’ was launched at Chanchalguda Central Jail to give ordinary citizens an opportunity to experience prison life firsthand. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, senior prison officials and other dignitaries inaugurated the program along with a newly established Jail Museum. The initiative aims to create awareness among people, especially youth, about the consequences of crime and the hardships of losing freedom behind prison walls.
Under the ‘Feel the Jail’ concept, citizens can stay inside the jail for a day by paying a fixed fee and experience the daily routine of prisoners. Participants will wear prison uniforms, stay in barracks and follow prison rules like inmates. The newly opened Jail Museum showcases the history of Chanchalguda Jail from the Nizam era, including chains, weapons, hanging ropes and old prison records. Officials stated that the project was introduced to promote awareness and help build a crime-free society.
