The Chennai Division of Southern Railway has urged all passengers to carry valid train tickets before boarding, stating that it is not only a legal requirement but also a social responsibility. In an official statement, the division emphasized that strict and continuous ticket checking drives are being conducted across suburban, mail, express, and special train services to curb unauthorised travel.
During the financial year 2025–26, ticket checking teams identified 12.24 lakh ticketless passengers and collected fines worth ₹65.16 crore. The railway has also encouraged passengers to use digital platforms such as the Rail One app for booking reserved and unreserved tickets. Additionally, tickets can be purchased through Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) and booking counters at major stations.
