Tamil Nadu Government Takes Key Decision on Fancy Vehicle Numbers

The Tamil Nadu government has proposed a significant increase in fees for fancy vehicle registration numbers, aiming to capitalize on the growing demand for premium and personalized number plates. Under the proposal, a new premium category has been introduced, with certain exclusive registration numbers expected to cost as much as ₹8 lakh.

According to the proposed fee structure, vehicle owners may have to pay ₹1.2 lakh for future series numbers between 5 and 8, ₹2 lakh for numbers between 9 and 10, ₹4 lakh for numbers between 11 and 12, and up to ₹8 lakh for premium future series numbers between 13 and 14. If approved, this would mark the first major revision in Tamil Nadu’s vehicle registration number charges since 2012.
