

Legendary playback singer S. Janaki passed away at the age of 88, leaving the Indian music fraternity in deep mourning. Widely regarded as one of India's greatest playback singers, she rendered more than 50,000 songs in 17 languages during a remarkable career spanning over six decades. Her unmatched versatility, expressive voice and ability to bring every emotion alive through music earned her the titles "Gaana Kokila" and "Nightingale of South India." She received four National Film Awards, 12 Nandi Awards and several other state honours for her immense contribution to Indian cinema.
Condolences poured in from across the country. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said S. Janaki's extraordinary voice enriched Indian music and transcended linguistic and regional boundaries. Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla described her as a legendary singer whose timeless songs would remain etched in the hearts of generations. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said her melodious voice left an everlasting impression on South Indian cinema and recalled her contribution of over 50,000 songs across 17 languages. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu termed her demise an irreparable loss and said her unmatched musical legacy would inspire generations to come.
Former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) remembered S. Janaki as an immortal voice who elevated Indian music with thousands of unforgettable songs and noted with pride that her family had roots in Sircilla. Megastar Chiranjeevi said many of the most memorable moments in his cinematic journey were immortalised by Janaki's magical voice, while Nandamuri Balakrishna described her as a towering figure in Indian music whose songs would continue to inspire generations. Leaders and members of the film fraternity extended heartfelt condolences to her family and millions of admirers, praying for eternal peace for her soul.
