Maha Varuna Yagam Held at Nagarjuna Sagar for Good Rains

A Maha Varuna Yagam was conducted at Vijay Vihar on the banks of the Krishna River near Nagarjuna Sagar on Monday, seeking abundant and well-distributed rainfall across Telangana. The ritual began during Brahma Muhurtham with the participation of 108 ritwiks, Vedic scholars and priests. Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and his wife, Kodad MLA Padmavathi Uttam Kumar Reddy, attended the inaugural rituals. The priests performed Chaturveda Parayanam, Agni Pratishthapana and special offerings while praying to Lord Varuna, the deity associated with water and rain.

Vedic scholars highlighted the historical connection of the Nagarjuna Sagar region, which was known as Vijayapuri in ancient times, with the worship of Varuna. The yagam was organised with the intention of bringing abundant rains across Telangana and the upper catchment areas of the Krishna and Godavari rivers in Karnataka and Maharashtra. Prayers were offered for reservoirs and lakes to fill up, groundwater levels to rise and farmers to have a prosperous Kharif season. The yagam, conducted as per Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s directions, will continue throughout the day, with Maha Poornahuti scheduled at 3:20 PM in the presence of the Chief Minister.
