Key Announcement by the Centre on the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project

The Central Government has made a significant announcement regarding the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project (PRLIS). It clarified that granting national project status to PRLIS is not currently under its consideration. The Centre also stated that it is not in a position to undertake the techno-economic appraisal of the project at present.

Further, the Centre explained that issues related to the utilization of Krishna river waters and inter-state disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the tribunal. It has returned the DPR of PRLIS to the Telangana Government, asking it to come up with a comprehensive plan. The Centre also noted that no final decision has been taken yet regarding financial assistance for the project.
