Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is back in the spotlight following reports of a shooting incident involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff. Despite being behind bars for years, criminal activities allegedly linked to his associates continue to raise concerns among investigators. According to media reports, Bishnoi, who is lodged at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Central Jail, has been moved from the ‘10-cell’ block to a high-security area referred to as ‘Room 200’. The block is reportedly divided into four sections, each accommodating around 50 inmates, with individual cells measuring approximately 7.5 by 11 feet. Surveillance is said to be maintained to restrict communication among prisoners. Reports also state that convicts in connection with the 2008 bomb blasts are housed in the same block.
Bishnoi, who hails from Punjab, has faced several criminal cases, including allegations related to murder, robbery and illegal arms. He was arrested in an illegal weapons case in 2014 and has been held in various prisons, including facilities in Punjab and Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Investigators have previously alleged that he used prison communication channels to issue threats and send messages to associates. In 2023, Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad took him into custody in connection with a narcotics-related case and transferred him to Sabarmati Central Jail. Officials have reportedly said that his recent communication has largely been limited to his legal team, with court appearances conducted virtually. Investigators have also examined alleged links between overseas-based gangsters, including Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara, and criminal activities attributed to the network. The latest reports have renewed attention on prison security and the investigation of alleged gang operations.
