Landslide Hits Indrakeeladri Ghat Road.. Major Mishap Averted

Heavy rains in Vijayawada led to a landslide on the Indrakeeladri Ghat Road on Thursday night, with rocks, boulders and soil slipping onto the route. The ghat road had already been completely closed for three days for repair and maintenance works ahead of the Dasara Sharannavaratri festivities. The advance closure helped prevent any loss of life or property.

NTR District Collector Dr G. Lakshmisha, along with temple Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik and engineering officials, inspected the affected stretch on Friday morning. Officials were directed to clear the debris using excavators and cranes and assess other vulnerable sections with technical experts. The Collector also ordered strengthening of retaining walls, iron fencing and rockfall nets, besides removal of loose rocks through controlled measures. The ghat road will remain restricted until safety inspections are completed.
