Fulfilling a key election promise, the Kerala Government has officially launched a free bus travel scheme for women. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan described the initiative as a significant step towards building a “New Kerala” and strengthening inclusive public welfare in the state.
The scheme was inaugurated by the Chief Minister at the KSRTC Bus Terminal in Thampanoor. Following the launch, he travelled by bus along with women passengers from Thampanoor to the Secretariat. The government announced that all women and transgender persons across the state are eligible to avail of the free travel facility. With this move, Kerala joins Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu in providing free bus travel benefits to women.
