The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has reportedly decided to impose a fine of ₹5,000 on those who waste drinking water. The decision comes amid concerns over water availability due to El Niño-related conditions. In line with the recommendations of the state water board, the civic body is taking measures to prevent unnecessary water consumption and promote responsible use of available resources. The move is aimed at conserving water and ensuring that supplies are used efficiently, particularly during periods when water scarcity could become a concern.
The restrictions are also set to apply to water tankers, according to the information provided. The civic body is expected to take a stricter approach towards water wastage and encourage residents, commercial establishments and water suppliers to follow conservation measures. Residents are advised to avoid leaving taps running, using excessive water for cleaning and allowing drinking water to go unused. The ₹5,000 penalty is intended to discourage wasteful practices and encourage careful water use. Further details about how the rules will be enforced and the specific violations that attract fines will depend on the official guidelines issued by the authorities.
