The Telangana government is examining measures to extend greater benefits to BC and EBC engineering students in fee reimbursement. Due to the existing rank ceiling, many economically weaker students are unable to access quality engineering colleges, prompting the government to consider increasing the limit. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has directed officials to assess the additional financial burden on the state exchequer and submit a report.
Earlier, fee reimbursement was available without rank restrictions, but later a ceiling was introduced for BC and EBC categories. With rising tuition fees in top engineering colleges, students are now bearing a significant burden. The government is evaluating the impact of raising the cutoff from 10,000 to 20,000 ranks and will take a final decision after reviewing the report.
