Four Punjab-Origin Youths Deported from Canada

Canadian authorities have deported four Punjab origin youths allegedly linked to extortion and organized crime activities, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said. The deported individuals have been identified as Palwinder Singh, Jasmeer Singh, Amitoj Bajwa and Sahibjot Singh. According to the CBSA, the four were found to have links to activities associated with extortion. The agency said it is taking action against foreign nationals in Canada who are found to be involved in extortion and organized crime. So far this year, Canada has deported 111 people linked to extortion related activities.

The CBSA said cases are assessed using information provided by other government agencies and police departments, its own investigations and information received from the public. Canada is also carrying out large scale deportations of people who do not meet immigration requirements. According to the agency, around 400 people every week are being removed for being ineligible or not authorized to remain in the country. Last year, Canada removed 23,160 people who were not authorized to stay, including 1,010 individuals deemed inadmissible on grounds related to serious or organized crime, national security or human rights violations.
