CM Chandrababu Announces New Law for BC Welfare and Protection

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that Backward Classes (BCs) have stood by the Telugu Desam Party for decades and played a crucial role in the formation of the coalition government. He announced that a new legislation for the welfare and protection of BCs would be introduced soon, with the draft already prepared. Speaking at the National Handloom Day programme near Chirala in Bapatla district, the Chief Minister launched the ‘Nethanna Sevalo’ scheme and released ₹179 crore to 71,536 eligible handloom families at ₹25,000 each. He said the government would continue welfare and development programmes despite financial challenges.

Naidu said several measures were being taken to revive the handloom sector, including subsidised power, pension benefits, handloom clusters and infrastructure projects. He highlighted welfare measures for fishermen, Vaddera communities and other BC groups and said the government had spent ₹1.50 lakh crore on welfare and ₹1.34 lakh crore on development over the past two years. He also spoke about the development of Amaravati and efforts to attract investments. Criticising opposition groups, he alleged that some forces were obstructing development and said the government would take firm action against disorderly activities. During the event, 90-year-old Chirala resident Pushpavathi, a long-time TDP supporter who wished to meet Chandrababu Naidu, was invited by the Chief Minister and her long-standing dream of taking a photograph with him was fulfilled.
