CERT-In Alert for Android Users

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a security alert for Android device users and advised them to update their smartphones as soon as possible. Users with devices running Android 14, 15, 16, Android 16 QPR2 and Android 17 have been urged to install the latest software updates without delay.

According to CERT-In, security vulnerabilities have been identified in several Android components, including Android Runtime, DocumentsUI, MediaTek Framework, Media Codecs, MediaProvider, Telephony, UWB and Wi-Fi. Hackers could potentially exploit these vulnerabilities to gain access to devices and misuse users’ personal information.

Google has already released security patches to address the reported issues, prompting CERT-In to recommend immediate updates. Users can update their devices through the Software Update or System Update option in Settings. Experts also advise using the latest Android version and avoiding app downloads from unknown sources to reduce the risk of cyberattacks.
