Centre Clears Massive Funds for GOBARdhan Scheme

The Union Cabinet has approved the GOBARDHAN scheme with an outlay of ₹23,731 crore to accelerate the production of compressed biogas (CBG) from cattle dung, agricultural residue, and food waste. The initiative will be implemented from the financial year 2026-27 to 2035-36, with the aim of expanding clean fuel production while promoting scientific waste management across the country.

Under the scheme, entrepreneurs and developers setting up CBG plants will receive capital assistance and access to credit support. The government expects the programme to encourage investment in renewable energy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, create rural employment, and convert organic waste into a valuable source of clean energy.
