The Andhra Pradesh Endowments Department has released its two-year progress report, highlighting major initiatives undertaken for temple development and preservation across the state. Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy stated that temples did not receive adequate attention under the previous government and emphasized that temples are an integral part of society and cultural heritage.
The minister announced that the Dhupa Deepa Naivedyam scheme has been expanded for 6,137 temples, with annual expenditure increased from ₹35 crore to ₹73 crore. A record ₹813 crore has been sanctioned under the Sarvashreyo Nidhi scheme for the development of 692 neglected ancient temples. In collaboration with TTD, the government has set a target of constructing 5,000 Srivani Bhajana Mandirams at a cost of ₹750 crore, with approvals already granted for 1,270 centres and ₹267 crore allocated. The government aims to develop temples not only as places of worship but also as symbols of Hindu cultural identity and self-respect.
