The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has issued orders deputing 180 doctors from major government hospitals to the upcoming TIMS Hospital in Sanathnagar. The transferred staff include 98 professors and assistant professors, along with 82 senior residents from institutions such as Osmania Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, and NIMS. The doctors were directed to be relieved on June 18 and report for duty at TIMS by the morning of June 19.
The move has sparked concerns among medical professionals, as no fresh recruitment has been undertaken for the new hospital. Instead, experienced specialists have been shifted from existing tertiary-care institutions. Healthcare experts warn that the transfer of super-specialty doctors could severely impact patient care and advanced medical services at Osmania, Gandhi, and NIMS hospitals, which are already handling a large volume of patients. Concerns are growing that the decision may lead to a shortage of specialist services and affect healthcare delivery in these major hospitals.
