A fraudulent letter circulating on social media claims that the Reserve Bank of India will refund ₹1 lakh to individuals who pay a refundable tax of ₹7,500. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has officially confirmed that the letter is fake and has no association with the RBI or the Government of India. It also clarified that the RBI never announces cash rewards or refunds in exchange for advance tax or processing fee payments.
PIB warned that cyber fraudsters are increasingly misusing the names and logos of government institutions to deceive people. Citizens have been advised not to respond to such messages or transfer money under any circumstances. The agency urged the public to verify such claims through official websites and report fake government-related information to PIB Fact Check or local authorities if they encounter any suspicious content.
